Set in Charles Burnett's local Los Angeles neighbourhood of Watts, Bless Their Little Hearts follows the underemployed Charlie Banks (Nate Hardman) as he tries to support his wife Andais (Kaycee Moore) and three children. Beset by an ever-growing pile of problems both financial and emotional, he finds his hold on the life he has built beginning to slip away.

Burnett here acts as screenwriter and cinematographer for director and L.A. Rebellion compatriot Billy Woodberry. A spiritual successor to Killer of Sheep 1977 — and featuring many of the same cast members, including relatives of Burnett — this engrossing drama is a devastating exploration of race, family and class in America.
