About
Young listless Pierce works at his parents' dry cleaning business, resentful of his ambitious, soon-to-be married brother. Feeling conflicted over the upcoming wedding and his best friend Soldier's impending release from prison, Pierce finds himself struggling with notions of race, family and his own identity in this captivating tragicomedy.
Left unfinished and unreleased for more than two decades, My Brother's Wedding was premiered in 1983 in its rough cut form against Burnett's wishes. This incomplete version received a negative review in the New York Times that led to the producers cancelling its release. After the film was purchased by longstanding Burnett champions Milestone Films in 2007, the director was finally able to finalise the edit as per his original vision. The completed version of the film was met with long overdue acclaim and exemplifies Burnett's ability to capture both the touchingly tender and the quietly devastating in life.
